IO Centers goes dark for Earth Hour 2009
IO Centers turned off all lights for one hour on March 28, 2009 at 8:30pm in recognition of Earth Hour 2009. Earth Hour is a global initiative of the WWF held on the last Saturday of March that asks households, businesses and governments to turn off their lights at 8:30pm local time for one hour to raise awareness towards the need to take action on climate change.

Earth Hour is a message of hope and action that everyone can make a difference. Following the initiative of Sydney in 2007 and the  success of Earth Hour 2008, other environmentally-conscious cities across the world participated in the voluntary rolling blackouts in 2009 aimed at bringing attention to energy usage and its impact on climate change.

As nightfall circled the globe on Saturday night, hundreds of landmarks around the world went dark for an hour starting with the remote Chatham Island chain about 800 kilometers southeast of New Zealand, Beijing's Bird's Nest Stadium and Water Cube, the Great Pyramids of Egypt, the Golden Gate Bridge, Niagara Falls, Sydney's Opera House, Rome's Coliseum and the Empire State Building.

During Earth Hour, both IO Centers at Arraya and Dar Al Awadi turned off all non-essential lighting to recognize environmental responsibility.  Says Managing Partner, Mr. Hamad Alhomaizi, ‘participating in Earth Hour 2009 was just one of the ways to prove that we care about our planet. Each of us is called to demonstrate our support towards action on climate change and Earth Hour 2009 offered us a chance to offset our impact on nature and the environment.’

Networking Event At IO Centers
On Jan 6th 2009, two of IO Centers clients - Bensirri and Arqaam Capital - kicked off the New Year with a business networking event at IO Centers Arraya in Kuwait City targeted at entrepreneurs and startup businesses. The event was organized to help these people and companies access the shared knowledge and resources of their peers and others that could help them develop more successfully especially in light of the recent economic turmoil gripping the world.

Discussions were informal for the most part and centered around issues of mutual interest such as recruiting clients and qualified staff and overcoming obstacles faced in the Kuwaiti market. The latter is of particular importance given the general dearth of information on business startup procedures and best practice for entrepreneurs.

IO Centers plans to organize similar events in cooperation with its clients in light of the success of this event and the general positive feedback received.

Bensirri is an independent public relations firm based in the Gulf and manned by a team of home-grown professionals with international experience and local insight and Arqaam Capital is establishing itself as a strong new player in the investment world bringing regional and international product offerings to the Middle East. The new J’Z bakery generously sponsored sugar-free snacks while Crepe Café sponsored tea and coffee for all the guests.
